“The Last Acorn” by Abbey Berg
acrylic on paper, 17”x21”, 2012

Katie Jelich is a senior illustration major at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. She is originally from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

“This piece was inspired by the local wildlife. When I moved to Eau Claire, one of the things I noticed was the large amount of squirrels the city has. For such small animals, they have a lot of personality. The way they fight and chase each other can be fun to watch. I’ve always loved animals and nature. They are among my favorite subjects to work with, though I usually prefer to paint more exotic or mythological creatures. I have a passion for fantasy and science fiction art and hope to make work in the genre professionally some day. I mostly paint with acrylics, but also use digital tools to create my art.” – The Artist
