UW-Eau Claire's Jazz I releases Funk Album, Cuts Another with the Stan Kenton Orchestra

The nationally recognized Jazz Ensemble I, has been the recipient of many honors. Nominated for a Grammy, twice, and winning the Down Beat Award for Best College Big Band six times. Suffice to say, they are kind of a big deal. Their much-awaited holiday concert on Dec. 2 featured a wide variety of music from Buddy Rich, student compositions, Dixie Duffey, an Eau Claire community vocalist, and UW-Eau Claire’s new clarinet professor, Dr. Melissa Koprowski. In addition to hearing some holiday favorites, the concert was the first venue to sell their new CD, Funk in Deep Freeze, an 11-track masterpiece with several guest performers of some of the most diverse jazz music to date. Added to their honors was being asked to perform and record a two CD set of Stan Kenton music that was lost between 1968 to 1977. This CD set, Double Feature, the Stan Kenton Orchestra and the UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I, will be available at various stores nationally.
