A rapidly evolving news media has left some in the dust, but if there’s anything a student-run organization can do, it is to adapt and appeal to a younger, newer audience. UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire seem to be rolling with the punches and having a good time with it. StoutMedia combines humor and stunning graphics with news students care about for its new web news show, titled Stout Nation. The fairly new segments have thus far addressed such diverse issues as recycling, rock concerts, athletics, and academics. UWEC’s student newspaper The Spectator has likewise added to its news presence with video segments appearing on its website. “The internet provides a huge opportunity to combine media,” news editor David Taintor said. “Now people can be told a story in a couple of different ways.” Visit uwstoutmedia.com and spectatornews.com to see for yourself.
