Tainter, a prominent lumber baron and partner in the Knapp, Stout & Co. Company, used the Oaklawn Inn’s original 518-acre Oaklawn Stock Farm to pursue his passion for horse racing. Although the racing stock was eventually sold, the property continued to evolve into various types of farms throughout the 20th century.

Perry is dedicated to providing a welcoming and memorable experience for every guest of the Oaklawn Inn. She has her own family roots in Menomonie – Perry's great-grandfather served as president of the University of Wisconsin-Stout for 23 years – and she continues to focus on preserving and honoring the community’s broader history. The Oaklawn Inn remains one of the few original buildings still standing from her great-grandfather’s time at Stout.
