A Menomonie trail project – which was first approved in 2022 and received funding last November –has reached the finish line less than one year later. As of July 23, when an official ribbon cutting ceremony was held, the newly completed Menomonie Recreation Trail creates a full trail loop around Lake Menomin and the City of Menomonie.

A half-mile extension was added to the existing recreation trail to complete the loop, with the trail now connecting to the Dunn County Judicial Center and Government Center along highways 12 and 29. The trail follows Stokke Parkway to the north and connects along the west end in front of Oakleaf Clinic on Stout Road.

The extension also completes the Lake Menomin Loop, now an 8.3-mile trail.

The joint efforts between Dunn County and the City of Menomonie came to life thanks to a shared vision to enhance the community’s trail system and improve residents’ and visitors’ quality of life, Menomonie City Administrator Eric Atkinson said.

With the project’s completion, there are now 15 miles of off-street recreation trails in Menomonie, in addition to the nearly 15-mile Red Cedar State Trail.
