PADDLES UP: Rentable Kayaks Now Available on Lake Menomin’s Shore
Menomonie now offers four rentable kayaks in Lakeside Park
Menomonie is lauded for its abundance of natural beauty and unique features – such as the Devil’s Punchbowl, an iconic geological gem and an official landmark – and just in time for the sunshine season, folks can now use a new resource to explore the 1,009-acre Lake Menomin: rentable kayaks.
Now available right off of Lake Menomin in Lakeside Park, the City of Menomonie, Explore Menomonie, and Menomonie Parks and Recreation partnered to offer four rentable kayaks.
They are available to visitors and community members alike by downloading the Rent.Fun app. Renters simply scan the QR code on the kayak locker unit, pay the rental fee to open the lockers, and grab a kayak, paddle, and life jacket.
“As we began to assess the needs of tourists in the Menomonie area, we realized there is a gap in activities for some demographics. We are working diligently on filling those needs, and the kayaks are just a start,” explained Tammy Simon, director of tourism for the Menomonie Area Chamber & Visitor Center.
By offering kayaks so close to the lake, visitors don’t need to invest in their own equipment to get out on the water. Several people have already used the kayaks since their launch in mid-April and have enjoyed getting outside as well as the quick rental process, Simon said.
Users must be 18 years or older, and only one person is allowed per kayak (no pets). The fee to rent is $25 per two-hour rental. Once done paddling about in Lake Menomin, renters will put their equipment back into the locker unit and select “End Rental” in the Rent.Fun app.
