The Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts in Menomonie has hired an arts administrator from Illinois as its new executive director. Jeff McSweeney, who most recently was executive director of Youth Music Illinois in Peoria, will officially begin work on Monday, June 18, the Mabel Tainter announced June 5. “The Mabel Tainter executive director role really grabbed my attention due to the history of the family and the phenomenal building all nestled in the wonderful community of Menomonie,” McSweeney said, according to the Dunn County News. “I grew up in a town similar in size and gravitate to the tight-knit feelings of knowing everyone and counting on each other.” McSweeney has operated his own photography and design business, Jeff McSweeney Creative Services, for 30 years, and has also served as development and marketing director for South Side Mission in Peoria and as alumni relations director at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois. A “meet and greet” for McSweeney will be 6-7pm on Wednesday, June 20, at the historic theater in downtown Menomonie. The reception will be followed at 7pm by a sneak preview of the arts center’s 2018-19 season and at 8:30pm by an outdoor screening of the Charlie Chaplin film The Gold Rush
