Chippewa Falls will officially have a brand-new healthcare facility when Aspirus Health opens its new hospital and clinic's doors for patient services on Tuesday, Sept. 22. That day will mark the first new hospital in the city since HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital relocated in 1975.

Prevea Clinics and HSHS’s abrupt and total exit from western Wisconsin in 2024 was the impetus for Aspirus’s new Chippewa Falls facility. At roughly 35,000 square feet, the hospital and clinic will sit on a 22-acre property at 1326 Chippewa Crossing Blvd.

Its full range of services will include an ER, inpatient care, primary care clinic services, imaging (X-ray and CT), laboratory services and an on-site pharmacy. On opening day, its “essential services” will be available to patients.

“When we open, we will have essential services for the hospital,” Jason Troxell, Aspirus Health's Northwest Wisconsin division president, said in a mid-summer interview. “Those are emergency care services, in-patient hospital services and clinical services in (the) primary care clinic office.”

“Without those services, the community suffers,” Troxell continued. “We knew we could meet those needs and meet them quickly. That's why we are opening this facility.”

Primary care services will be led by board-certified family medicine clinicians, Ashley Schuelke and Dr. Katherine Jackson-Schneider – each of whom are already familiar with the Chippewa Valley community.

Dr. Jackson-Schneider has spent the past five years at the Aspirus Stanley Clinic and will begin seeing patients in Chippewa Falls on Sept. 22.

Schuelke, a nurse practitioner, has over a decade of experience serving patients in the Chippewa Valley. She described her approach as “holistic … while addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of health.”

Both Schuelke and Dr. Jackson-Schneider emphasized the well-rounded approach family medicine clinicians can offer.

“Family medicine clinicians care for patients through many stages of life,” Dr. Jackson-Schneider said. “That may include annual wellness visits, routine physicals, management of chronic conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, medication reviews, preventive screenings, immunizations and evaluation of new or ongoing symptoms.”

Aspirus' Chippewa Falls hospital and clinic will host an open house and ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 17, offering attendees a facilities tour and the opportunity to meet providers and staff.

Patient services will begin on Sept. 22, just over one year since the facility’s groundbreaking in 2025.
