Aspirus Health Puts The Pieces Together – Literally – In Chippewa Falls
35,000-square-foot healthcare facility aims for September completion, to offer inpatient services, emergency department and more
Wausau-based nonprofit Aspirus Health celebrated a major construction milestone earlier today, Feb. 26, as prefabricated sections were placed on-site of what will be a brand-new hospital and clinic in Chippewa Falls.
Since its groundbreaking on Chippewa Crossing Blvd. last August, Aspirus Health has made swift progress in its efforts – by way of “hybrid” construction, a media release noted – to begin servicing the Chippewa Falls area as soon as possible.
“About 30% of the 35,000-square-foot building was fabricated offsite and is being integrated with traditionally built components,” the media release stated.
Earlier this week, crews installed “Emergency Department modules and roof cassettes” and will continue placing additional roof components and clinic modules throughout the week.
Construction should be completed this September, resulting in an emergency department with 10 treatment rooms, 10 inpatient beds, an on-site clinic with 12 treatment rooms, imaging services, laboratory services and a pharmacy.

Aspirus Health initially expanded its services into the wider Chippewa Valley region – specifically in Stanley and Thorp – following the abrupt closures of HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals in 2024. By the end of that year, Aspirus Health had drummed up plans to create a brand-new hospital and clinic in Chippewa Falls.
Aspirus Health already operates nearly 20 hospitals and 130 outpatient locations across northeastern Minnesota, northern and central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. According to its website, hiring is underway for various positions in Chippewa Falls.
