You can support a local clinic by eating out locally on Thursday, Aug. 7.

It’s been estimated that 5,600 people in Chippewa County do not have health insurance. Many of those neighbors rely on organizations like The Open Door Clinic, Inc. (130 W Central St., Chippewa Falls) for the wellness services they need.

Fueled primarily by donations and grants, The Open Door Clinic is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to provide basic healthcare services and a connection to community resources for Chippewa Valley residents who are without a healthcare alternative,” as stated in a recent media release.

This summer, local businesses are partnering with the clinic for its annual fundraising event: Meet to Eat For The Free Clinic. Eat at one of five participating restaurants on Aug. 7 and 25% of that purchase's cost will go to benefit the clinic.

Participating restaurants include:

• Harm's Way Bar & Grill (1103 15th Ave., Bloomer)
• Old Abe's Supper Club (17256 155th Ave., Jim Falls)
• Anderson's Chic-N-Fish (615 W Park Ave., Chippewa Falls)
• The SandBar & Grill (17643 50th Ave., Chippewa Falls)
• Xpeditions (1319 Main St., Bloomer)

Each person who contributes to the fundraiser will also have their name entered in a prize drawing, sponsored by other local businesses.
