In partnership with local veterans, the Chippewa Falls YMCA announced the launch of its Summer Veterans Fishing Series, a six-event series to get locals and veterans together and outdoors this season.

The events – June 13 and 27; July 11 and 25; and Aug. 8 and 22 – will be held at Erickson Park from 8am-1pm with a fish fry held at noon for folks to enjoy the fish they catch.

“Engaging with our veterans through this fishing series is a way for us to give back to those who have given so much,” said Kara Goossens, one of the event organizers. “We are not just fishing together; we are weaving bonds of friendship and creating joyous memories that honor our veterans’ service.”

Volunteers are needed to assist with tasks like helping cast and bait lines, to share stories, and to help prepare and cook at the fish fry from 10:30am-1pm. For those who can’t volunteer time but are looking to contribute, donations can be made online or by contacting Goossens.
