It’s like clockwork – the ground defrosts, the trees bud again and we’re left to determine what to do with all this nice weather (and how long it'll last). Thanks to a generous sponsorship by Leinenkugel’s Brewing, Chippewa Falls is offering a solution to that problem.

What better way to get outside than to check out Leinenkugel’s Disc Golf Course with some friends? Located in Casper Park, this 18-hole course – with an alternative 6-hole course as well – is perfect for novice and veteran players. According to John Jimenez, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry in Chippewa Falls, it’s just the thing for community members and disc golf players from around the nation to get involved.

“As a department and as a city, we want to provide opportunities for community members who haven’t had the chance to learn,” Jimenez said. Their small, recreational league encourages new players to give a new sport a try, with upwards of 200 people involved already.

Not only is this course good for casual competition, but Jimenez shared a new event that widens the scope of competition to the entire continent. Sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), Leinenkugel’s Disc Golf Course is hosting a two-day tournament May 6-7, where players from a multitude of places can compete.

“We’ve got players from seven different states, and even people from Canada,” Jimenez said. “There are about 150 players participating, which is a great turnout!”

Plus, the inaugural Spring Open at the course will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 9am-12pm with the skills challenge – including longest drive, ring of fire, and best putter – starting at 1pm.

And don’t worry – the beginning of May won't be the only time a PDGA tournament will be at the course. The Chippewa Valley Disc Golf Organization (CVDGO) is planning another tournament for this summer, again sanctioned by the PDGA, set to hit the course July 22-23.

“The great thing about (these kinds of events) is the impact that it makes in our culture here in the community,” Jimenez explained. “It impacts hotel stays, restaurants, and local businesses. We’re excited to support that in our efforts to continue to build our community.”

Now that summer is right around the corner, it’s time to start planning our warm-weather activities. Add Leinenkugel’s Disc Golf Course to the top of your list this year and explore the opportunities disc golf can offer!
