Irvine Park Zoo Greets Baby Zebra
an adorable newbie has joined the ranks of Irvine Park Zoo
On Sept. 11, Chippewa Falls' Irvine Park Zoo team welcomed an unexpected new animal: a baby zebra.
John Jimenez, director of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, said the foal has been healthy and blending in with the rest of the herd well since its birth, and the whole staff is very excited to have the new member.
The baby has been staying very close to its mother and has been following a healthy managed diet, all signs pointing to a healthy start for the baby zebra. This winter, Irvine Park Zoo is partnering with Timbavati Wildlife Park in the Wisconsin Dells. Their plan is to send their warmer-climate animals to live at their facilities, which are capable of protecting them from the hazardous cold weather.
Next season, Irvine Park is interested in bringing the zebras and the baby back to Chippewa Falls, as they have been popular with the community. The zoo will pursue the latter once the weather warms up come springtime.
