A newly announced $75 million investment will see HPE's local footprint expand, helping the company meet "growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing solutions."

In a joint media release from Governor Tony Evers’ office on Oct. 15, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced its largest investment in its Wisconsin facilities – solely based in Chippewa Falls – in years.

HPE plans to invest $75 million over the next five years to expand its Chippewa Falls operations, the release states, with plans to create 75 new area jobs.

“Supported by performance-based EZ tax credits from the state, the company will expand its testing, warehousing and manufacturing capabilities in Chippewa Falls, enhancing capacity and supporting future growth,” Gov. Evers stated.

“The expansion further reinforces HPE’s longstanding commitment to Wisconsin and the Chippewa Valley while supporting the company’s ability to meet growing global demand for AI and high-performance computing technologies,” Evers continued.

Evers Administration Supports HPE Expansion With An Additional Up To $5.1 Million In Performance-Based Tax Credits

According to the Oct. 15 media release, Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE) $75 million investment in Wisconsin will benefit from up to $5.1 million in performance-based Enterprise Zone (EZ) tax credits, on top of the existing $8 million EZ agreement announced in 2021.

“In 2021, Gov. Evers and WEDC announced an $8 million EZ tax credit agreement, and under that agreement, HPE exceeded its commitments by investing more than $25.9 million in Wisconsin, creating 120 new jobs, and retaining 486 positions,” the release states.

“Based on the company’s performance and continued growth plans, the WEDC Board of Directors approved an amendment to the original 2021 contract in July 2026, increasing the total available credits to $13.1 million and extending the contract by five years.”

After adding Wisconsin to its site portfolio in 2016, HPE purchased locally-founded Cray Inc. for a whopping $1.6 billion in 2019.

A few years later, in 2021, HPE invested another $22 million into its Chippewa Falls footprint, to create the “Global Center of Excellence for High-Performance Computer Manufacturing.”

That led to the creation of HPE's 125,000-square-foot manufacturing warehouse on a roughly 15-acre campus near the Mills Fleet Farm distribution center in Chippewa Falls. Today, HPE employs about 500 people through the local sites.
