A longtime local business, House Blend Lighting & Design in Chippewa Falls, has received aWisconsin Economic Development Corporation award for Best Upper Floor Development.

Owners Marnie and Mike Keilholz revamped and revitalized a historic building in the heart of downtown Chippewa Falls at 215 N. Bridge St. The couple are just the third owners of the building, which dates to 1893. The incredibly spacious and detail-oriented apartment occupies 2,400 square feet inside.

While House Blend Lighting & Design fills first floor, the apartment is on the second level, which was transformed from an undeveloped storage space to a stunning AirBnB rental. After knocking out the main wall in November 2020 – the duo were inspired to remodel the space in the midst of COVID-19 – they realized how much history and craftsmanship was truly built into the building.

In addition to a new floor plan and plumbing, electric, heat, and air-conditioning, the rental now includes four bedrooms and two baths, as is decorated to evoke a sense of modernity woven within its historic charm.

Recognized for the vast complexities of remodeling this particular space while honoring its historic roots, House Blend Lighting & Design is the only business in the Chippewa Valley to have won a WEDC award for 2022.

Teri Ouimette of Chippewa Falls Main Street was also recognized, receiving an Executive Director Years of Service Award. Ouimette has worked for Chippewa Falls Main Street for 13 years.

The awards were given out at a ceremony in La Crosse in April.

The Keilholzes rent out the historic remodeled space for special occasions and events as well, including bridal parties, family reunions, work events, and more. The apartment currently holds a five-star rating on AirBnB.

Check out the remodeled apartment on its official website or rent it on AirBnB. Visit House Blend Lighting & Design’s website and Facebook to learn more about the biz and Marnie and Mike Keilholz.
