The Chippewa Valley has a thing for great local food, and this new eatery is hoping to build community through its grub. Uncle Sam’s opened on April 1 in Chippewa Falls, offering casual American-style food with attention to the price point.
“My hopes for Uncle Sam’s is to start rebuilding a community with an actual community-focused business, holding events, and keep prices low,” explained Isaiah Prince, owner of Uncle Sam’s. “It will only be pickup and delivery until our name is out there and we get a secured location.”
Aiming to have a stand-alone business front with a buffet eventually, Uncle Sam’s is currently running as a pick-up and delivery-only restaurant in order to train employees and get their food out to the public. Uncle Sam’s is operating out of a kitchen at 501 N. High St., Chippewa Falls, inside the building that was previously housed by Bye the Willow.
Food options include build-your-own cheeseburgers, pasta entrees like beef mushroom alfredo and spaghetti and meat sauce – plus a meatless option – and a kid’s menu, featuring chicken strips, pizza sticks, and more. Dessert selections include a slice of raspberry swirl cheesecake, brownies, mini cinnamon donuts, and a handful of others. Gluten-free pasta and salad options are currently in the works and will hopefully be available soon.
Prince said all the food will be fresh – as in, not frozen and no preservatives – sourcing his ingredients from local suppliers through Sysco and making all sauces in-house. The average cost per meal is about $12.
While Prince had been initially scoping out a location in Eau Claire, he ultimately decided to move forward in Chippewa Falls. He recently sold his previous business, and the young entrepreneur is excited to bring his food biz to the area.
“Since I started at McDonald’s when I was 14, I grew a love (for the food business) and I haven’t been able to shake it,” Prince said. “I have always loved food!”
Initial hours will be Wednesday-Friday from 4-11pm and 11am-11pm Saturday-Sunday. “This is to get everyone trained so I can be there at all times when open,” Prince explained. He plans to expand hours in the future.
