The shutdowns and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus hit all businesses hard, including the unique retailers and service providers in Menomonie’s picturesque downtown.

This spring, Downtown Menomonie Inc. – a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the downtown business district – sprang into action to create a COVID-19 relief grant program. Using $15,000 in seed money from its own coffers and soliciting donations from other individuals and businesses, Downtown Menomonie Inc. was able to give out 17 grants worth a total of $23,000 in June.

The grants, which were as large as $1,500 each, helped small businesses pay rent, keep up with their bills, or meet other expenses caused by the pandemic. Recipients included Acoustic Cafe, Artysta Boutique, Beauje Hair Salon, Bookends on Main, Collective Souls, Donut Sam’s, Fleet Feet, Game Quest Gaming, Heroes Welcome, La dee dah, Leissa’s Hair Studio & Day Spa, Mike’s Art & Design Supply, Mood Boutique, The Raw Deal, Town & Country Antiques, Uptown Curl, and Zymurgy Brewing.
