“Over 80% of our clients come from other lawyers,” he said. “Those lawyers may get into a situation or come across a case that they’ll refer to us because they don’t want — or aren’t equipped — to take it to trial.”

The practice of Personal Injury is uniquely vast in its scope and is one reason why many firms look to avoid going to trial. From car, motorcycle and boating accidents to slip-and-fall cases, to dog bites or burns, to defective products and medical malpractice — accidents don’t discriminate.

“We’re a very busy firm and take on a lot of clients who have complex cases,” Wachs said. “Most of those people are hurt terribly, and then have to go up against large corporations in hopes of getting justice. When we take on a case, that becomes our job.

“We’ll take care of everything. The clients’ job is to concentrate on getting well,” he said.

Attorney Jessie Weber and Wachs have taken on cases which span weeks to years in length, bringing a combined 60 years of expertise to the courtroom. Weber’s background — a 20-plus-year career in Criminal Defense — aided her transition to Personal Injury.

Since 2022, when she was hired at GTW, that pivot proved to be the path toward a genuine passion: Helping people build cases, not deconstructing them.

What’s more, GTW does not charge clients until they receive a verdict or settlement.

“Here, we have two lawyers on every trial case. That team approach creates a coordinated effort and combined well of knowledge for our clients,” Weber said.

That dual approach is something Wachs and Weber are teaching to the next generation of trial lawyers — including GTW’s newest attorney, Makayla Romundstad.

The Jim Falls native graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before studying at the University of Wisconsin School of Law. With a family background in dairy farming, hard work was far from a foreign concept — and, while a different kind of effort, it primed Romundstad for the continuous work required in Personal Injury law.

Much of the GTW team’s time is spent building a bulletproof case for their clients, and that means dozens of hours of research before ever entering a courtroom — something aided by the relationships the team has built with leading physicians and experts across the country, over its decades of experience.

“No day is ever the same as the one before, working in Personal Injury,” Romundstad said, “but you are always working to help someone else.”

“That’s why we take the hard cases others won’t,” Wachs added. “We’re not afraid to sue massive corporations. Whether it takes a few days, a few weeks or several years, we are all in.”
