replied to: Anyone remember Pavelski’s supper club?…

Yeah... it was out on old 29... I remember it burned down when I was in high school and the lot was empty for a long time. Now its a mini storage place.

I have used Uber when traveling in a few larger cities and most of the time, drivers are at my location in 5 minutes or less. It just depends on the local demand and how many people are willing to be drivers or pay for the service. I think it will be great to have in Eau Claire!

Architectural Echoes: Pieces of our past…

I was really disappointed to see that Eau Claire Children's Museum destroyed the beautiful "Woothworth's" mosaic that was in front on the side entrance. It was a nice homage and didn't need to be removed.

Hotel, Convention Center Added to Plans…

Where will the parking ramp be for this facility? Assuming 5,000 people are at a concert and 3 people travel to the facility per vehicle, we’re looking at 1,666 spaces needed to accommodate that many people. Now compare that to the size of the Phoenix Park ramp, which with the 4th level holds about 770 vehicles, we are looking at needing a substantial parking structure, plus the road infrastructure to move people in and out the area efficiently. Although I complexly support the idea of a convention center and hotel in this area, we need to work out these details sooner than later. In light of this development, the proposed tennis center across the street should be put on hold until we have a firm grasp of this project and its needs to make it successful.

Like many of you, I also believe that this is a bad idea. I don’t understand why the City Council would allow something like this to happen, when we are in the mist of trying to revitalize this city. This is prime real estate and is best suited for a hotel or convention center. Look at all the empty land out on County T – that would be a perfect place to build a big hospital! I’m sure there are many other spots in the area that would be equally as good.

The only way I could support this project is to see the University design a better conference/event center on Menominee Street, with a nice hotel across the street - not a stupid indoor tennis court.

I know I am excited for this and the new dining options at the Lismore! I just hope between the two, there will be some fun late-night dining/dessert options for people to go to after seeing a show or concert.

I still think the “Cannery District” would be a great place for a nice convention center. There’s a lot of space for a convention space and parking ramp, plus it would have a great view of the river. Not to mention, it’s really close to downtown and the North Crossing.

Well it doesn't have to be... the ramp next to the new Twins Stadium in Minneapolis, for instance, has thousands of small metal tiles that blow in the wind to create an ever changing visual display. Has anything been decided for sure for the exterior? I want something interesting here too!

I read a book quite a while ago called "Out There" about aliens and secret government cover-ups. Some of it took place in Western Wisconsin (e.g Elmwood, Eau Claire, etc.) Does the UFO landing site in Elmwood still exist??

I agree with many of the comments too. These new buildings downtown are starting to all look alike. Lets have something with some stone or creative brickwork. Maybe something that gives a little homage to the past, while being modern too?

I think its funny that people are still talking about the "historical significance" of these buildings, but have done nothing to even salvage part of them... like the facade on the Kiein's building.

If you check out the Great American Beer Festival website, you'll see a lot of WI/MN breweries winning medals for various brews over the last few years... pretty nice to see.

I hate to say this, but I see far more bicyclists running stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic and doing other hazardous behavior than actually obeying the rules of the road. They are unpredictable and think they own the entire roadway.

I saw it a few years ago when I was in there. I just saw a photo of it on FB or somewhere in the last few days too. I remember when I was little, Eastridge was the CO-OP Shopping Center - that escalator would go up to the furniture department (I think).
