Wedding Photo Story: Honoring Family, Celebrating the Future

photos by Li La Moua

Chippewa Valley Residents Blong and Pang Hang were married at the Swan Door Barn in Wisconsin Dells. They were also married at Pang’s parent’s home. Their two weddings celebrated their Hmong heritage, integrating traditional wedding customs from Laos with modern American styles and ceremonies. While their Hmong wedding didn’t follow tradition strictly, Pang’s female family members helped her don a ris tsho hmoob, a Green Hmong dress with a colorful skirt. Women from both families prepared special meals, while men gathered and waited for the whole family to send Pang to her groom. For their second wedding, Pang traded her hat for a flower crown and wore a lacy A-line white gown with a long train. This celebration included a first look, ceremony, and family gathering with lots of delicious food. Their double-ceremony allowed Blong and Pang to honor the special union between their two families, building a strong relationship among them all.
