Get involved making good things happen in your own community.

Volume One, the Chippewa Valley’s award-winning and impactful digital/print media, video, event, retail, and hospitality/tourism company is the creator of the Chippewa River Trolley Company – Eau Claire’s only vintage-inspired trolley experience. Our busy tour trolley offers dozens of community adventures including food & drink tours, history & cultural tours, nature & farm tours, theatrical & late-night tours, seasonal and holiday tours, private rentals, and more to thousands of guests each year, all primarily launched from inside the historic walls of The Local Store in downtown Eau Claire.

With the growth of the trolley concept, we are pleased to announce we’re hiring a full-time operations/sales manager for our team with the title of Tours, Experiences, & Sales Director. This newly evolved, multi-faceted role needs an energetic and dynamic individual to become a key player in the community-oriented operations of our organization, leading the trolley through its fourth season of success (alongside 24 years of success at Volume One) and down the tracks to its bright future.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

This hospitality and tourism-focused role will lead the effort on several aspects of this growing community business, including the core areas below. It’s a job deeply engaged with and serving in promotion of our community’s rich history and culture, helping both visitors and locals enjoy truly authentic local experiences. While this director role will oversee and execute many of the duties listed here, these tasks are also done in collaboration with ownership, a trolley field director, a team of drivers and hosts, and the full talents of Volume One’s creative staff in marketing, design, video, ticketing, and more.

Programming and Partnerships:

  • Research and explore new trends, concepts, and routes to develop and improve trolley tours that will be in demand by locals and tourists
  • Maximize potential by planning and managing a full trolley tour calendar, scheduling the right mix of events across the season (April-December)
  • Build and maintain key partnerships with local vendors and venues to create impactful experiences for both the trolley guests and their own teams and customers for mutual success

Office and Staff Operations:

  • Collaborate with drivers and performers to schedule staffing for all tours
  • Promote staff openings and lead the process for interviews, hiring, and training for the trolley along with ownership and the team
  • Thoroughly communicate weekly and daily with drivers, hosts, venues, and partners about upcoming tours, logistics, weather, or updates
  • Coordinate with Local Store staff (the front line on ticketing and check-in) on tour logistics and scheduling, including guest arrivals and incoming inquiries
  • Oversee general back office and administrative management of the trolley including ordering supplies, tracking budgets, and more

Sales and Revenue Management:

  • Monitor and promote ticket sales across all scheduled tours, making decisions on adding or subtracting tours and events as needed
  • Closely watch demand and ticket prices to maximize value
  • Conduct outreach and sales with local and regional businesses, organizations, and schools for tour groups, private events, or custom tours
  • Field inquiries for private rentals and events, negotiating terms and coordinating details

Marketing & Communications:

  • Oversee trolley marketing and advertising efforts across both company-owned and outside channels for maximum impact
  • Create engaging content for social media, managing engagement and interaction
  • Administer regular promotional email newsletters and press releases
  • Be the point of contact and spokesperson for occasional media coverage including TV, radio, print, web and more

Content Development:

  • Participate in historical and current research for the generation of tour and event concepts and approaches
  • Participate with the team in the writing, editing, and design of on-trolley guides and materials
  • Participate with the team in the creation and curation of tour content including scripts, visuals, audio, and more

TRAITS & QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will bring a genuine passion for creating memorable community experiences for locals and visitors alike. This role requires strong people skills, a sales-minded approach, truly excellent organization skills, and the ability to manage many moving parts across tours, rentals, partnerships, marketing, and day-to-day operations.

The right person will be both big-picture and detail-oriented: able to help grow the trolley as a community-facing business while also managing the practical hospitality details that make each experience run smoothly. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build warm, productive relationships with customers, vendors, drivers, staff, and private rental clients.

Candidates should have a solid foundation in project coordination, sales, customer service, scheduling, and using sales data to guide smart decisions. Comfort with ticket sales, vendor/venue coordination, and marketing including social media, email newsletters, and promotional writing is important. The ability to work independently, solve problems, manage logistics, and stay calm when plans change is also key.

Relevant education or experience in hospitality, business, project management, events, tourism, marketing, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity with the Eau Claire area, common business tools, ticketing/CRM platforms, and using AI to improve efficiency are all pluses.

Most of our trolley tours are on evenings and weekends. However this management role generally follows a loose 8am–5pm weekday office schedule with some flexibility. Periodic evening or weekend hours can be part of the job for special events or tours that require additional management, such as initiating new tours, occasional ridealongs, working with venues, etc. When that happens, schedules may be adjusted with time off at other points in the week to support a healthy and sustainable approach. Some minor decision-making and communication availability may be needed in off hours as well if issues arise while tours are happening.

PAY & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, salaried position in a bright and interesting office space in downtown Eau Claire, and venturing out into the community to create tours, partnerships, and more. Performance bonuses based on seasonal sales are also possible. Enjoy a range of benefits including up to four weeks paid vacation, eight paid holidays, half-day summer Fridays, health and dental insurance contributions, retirement contributions, partially paid maternity/paternity leave, family gym memberships, community stipends, community service days, Local Store discounts and more. We’re located in a walkable district just feet from the bike trail, Eau Claire River, Phoenix Park, the library, theaters, and several restaurants, retailers, and community assets.
