The snow is starting to fall, and we all know what that means – it’s time to stuff our faces with food. Everyone knows the only way to survive a Wisconsin winter is to move less and eat more, right? What harm has ever come of that? Sure, you can get outside if you want, and go skiing or snowshoeing or ice skating or whatever. But in between all that activity, you better eat good so you don’t get frostbite or hypothermia. Or chilly.

And maybe it’s time to break from your routine and give some new restaurants a shot. Glance to your right, and you’ll find a fine list of candidates for your next awesome meal. Most of them are probably off your radar. This is only a fraction of what you can find in the Chippewa Valley, but if you’re looking for a night out, a quick lunch, a sweet treat, or, um, a Bavarian beer hall odyssey … here’s a good place to start.

These eateries aren’t exactly “hidden,” but it seems like lots of people hear about them and never get around to going. So check ’em out. (And leave a review!)

    Happy gorging!

Popular menu items include the The Badger Best (ham, bacon, cheddar, veggies, and mayo on toasted wheat), and the Harding Classic (ham, turkey, veggies, Monterey jack, and cheddar with special sauce). Thai Orchid Restaurant

Eau Claire  -  Thai Orchid Restaurant lets you customize your dish with your preferred level of spiciness, ranging from “seriously, not hot at all” to “seriously, get me some water.” Some local favorites include the Pad Thai with chicken or the delicious Drunken Noodles. Monkey in the Middle Pizza at Action City

Eau Claire  -  Upbeat and fun, the pizza joint at Action City offers a zesty meal amidst the video games, go-karts, and a trampoline park. Quirky-named made-from-scratch pizzas with hint-of-garlic crusts fill the menu, and pies like the Boese Special (a mix of barbecue sauce, mozzarella, and cheddar topped with pepperoni and bacon) will quell your hunger. For those with an extreme pizza love, The Gorilla Pizza weighs in at more than eight pounds and 30 inches. Private party rooms available.
