Orphan’s last call: ECCT to perform Annie for the last time at State Theatre

Lauren Fisher |

The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is bringing the family classic Annie to the State Theatre for the last time on that historic stage. “It’s a feel-good musical with a positive message and has all the elements for a classic musical including kids, a dog, and lots of singing and dancing,” director Wayne Marek said. Annie, an orphan, is brought to the wealthy Oliver Warbucks’ estate for Christmas as a way to show the public his compassionate side. Her charming and spirited personality quickly wins his heart, and he vows to help her find her birth parents. Meanwhile, Miss Hannigan hatches a plot to bring Annie (and some cold cash) back to the orphanage. Love, family, and hope are found during their adventure. The show will star Tehya Johnson as the immortalized Annie, Steve Turek as Daddy Warbucks, and Kobi Shaw as Miss Hannigan. Annie will run Nov. 16-19 with shows at 7:30pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30. Historically, Annie has been one of ECCT’s most successful plays, and this will be the last chance to see it in this historic theater with your family.
