Boys & Girls Club Opening Again in Menomonie
An after-school option for elementary students in Menomonie is up and running again as of Monday, Feb. 13, thanks to generous community donations and an agreement with the Menomonie school district. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley announced in January that its Menomonie center was reopening at River Heights Elementary. The program, which served more than 100 kids last year with after-school and summer programs, closed last August because of a budget shortfall.
“We’re very excited to be reopening the club, and we’re grateful for the continued support from the community,” said Chief Executive Offer Sara Antonson. Trevor Bohland, the Boys & Girls Club corporate board president, added that he appreciated “the support and outreach from the community which has afforded us the opportunity to resume programming.”
“The tireless work of the Menomonie Advisory Council has carried the flag of our mission – to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens,” Bohland added.
The Menomonie Center will provide programs for third- through fifth-graders who are at least 8 years of age. After-school programs – which include a healthy snack, homework and recreation time, and other activities – run from the end of the school day until 7pm. The club is also open on most weekdays during the school year when school is not in session (other than a few holidays).
Membership fees are $15 per year per child or $30 per year per family. While the program is based at River Heights Elementary, the club offers free transportation from Oaklawn, Wakanda, Downsville, and Knapp elementary schools, and children who attend private schools or who are home-schooled are also welcome to attend.
Registration forms are available at River Heights, Oaklawn, Wakanda, Downsville, and Knapp elementary schools and online at www.cvclubs.org. If you have questions about the club, contact Menomonie Center Director Mike Wollman at (715) 233-2540 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
