If you need evidence that sledding has been an essential wintertime activity for generations of Chippewa Valley children, check out this image from the Chippewa Valley Museum’s collection. During a “Klondike Day” in January 1965, local Boy Scouts lugged their wooden sleds back to the top of a snowy hill in Carson Park. (Presumably the trip back down would be more fun.) Boy Scouts of the Chippewa Valley Council still take part in Klondike Derbies each winter, during which they race sleds, learn survival skills, and keep warm with chili.
