5 locally branded foodstuffs waiting to happen

Everyone goes gaga over local flavor, right? Well, let's capitalize on some local flavor with these locally flavored food-like product ideas ...

1. Country Jam Jam

Turning fruit into jam helps preserve its flavor to enjoy all year long. County Jam Jam does the same for the famous country music festival, locking the flavors of the outdoors, leather, sweat, and lite beer into a delicious spread. Yee haw.

2. Leader-Telegram Crackers

These crisp, sweet snacks feature reprints of the exciting local headlines that only a mid-size upper-Midwestern city could produce, written in edible ink. “Local Basketball Team Wins/Loses!” “Area Weather Sure Is Crazy!” “It’s Tax Day/Arbor Day/Back to School Day Again!”

3. Lake Wissota Soda

Lots of other soda companies boast about their “pure spring water.” Where’s the flavor in that?!? Lake Wissota Soda highlights all of the natural, organic flavors that only a man-made lake can deliver, because their water is carried by bucket directly from the shores of Western Wisconsin’s premier sportsman’s lake. Earthy. Refreshing.

4. Altoona Casserole

In a casserole dish, make a bed of tuna and cream of mushroom soup. Down the middle, lay a bed of peas (gravel). Construct tracks out of spaghetti noodles. Then wait for the 6pm express train to the land of flavor! All aboard, kids!

5. Dippin’ Cadotts

Cadott is halfway between the equator and north pole.  Dippin’ Dots are halfway between ice cream and amazing possibilities of the future. Once you get halfway through a container of Dippin’ Cadotts, you will be transported to a land of rolling hills, the smell of fertilizer, and the promise of future rural growth contingent on the recovery of the state’s economy. Yummy.
