Have anything planned for Sunday, May 29? I know where I'll be. Screaming alongside 50,000-plus people at Rhymesayers' annual Soundset Festival. The single-day festival has been held annually for the last four years, and this year's rendition will keep with the past traditions of combining musical performances, B-Boy and MC battles, live art, and skateboarding into one amazing day at Canterbury Park in Shakopee (Minn., about 30 minutes outside of the Twin Cities). Attendees to this years festival can expect to get a full schooling on everything that is hip-hop and street culture.

There are two stages that play music all day long (rain or shine) with breakdancing battles, freestyle rap battles, and hip-hop performances. Basically all the street wear and hip hop stores/organizations/record labels have booths set up there and artists do meet-and-greets throughout the day. It is outdoors, and there is a skatepark/halfpipe there as well, where skate demos and competitions are  held. Everyone who is involved with hip-hop in Minnesota will be there. The main attraction is definitely the huge lineup, though.

You can expect to see Atmosphere, De La Soul, Big Boi (of Outkast), Slaughterhouse, Mac Miller, Curren$y, Brother Ali, Doomtree, and dozens more exciting acts perform on either the main stage or the Fifth Element Stage throughout the day. The event is hosted by none other than Carnage, Kevin Beachum, and Toki Wright. I know many Midwest hip-hop heads who wait all year for this day, and I guarantee it will be a highlight of my summer.
