With the X-Men, Captain America, Green Lantern and Thor all on their way to theatres, this year is, once again, the year of the superhero movie. But thanks to the forces of good over at Chippewa Valley Community Television and the UAC, our community won’t have to wait until summer to enjoy some hard-hitting, pulse-pounding superhero action. The entries are now in for CVCTV’s 24-Day Video Project: Superheroes, which gave local filmmakers almost an entire month to come up with, shoot, and edit the best ten minute superhero movie they could think of. The only requirements were that the filmmakers use one standard prop, a comic book, and one standard line, the ever-awesome “I’m Batman.” Anything else was fair game.

So when the movies are screened at 7 pm, March 6 in Schofield Auditorium, be ready for anything. The films will most likely range from costumed comedies to serious superhero fare and run the gamut of everything in between. Half the fun is just seeing what our area filmmakers came up with, and you’ll get to voice your opinion by voting for which of the movies you think was the best. At the awards ceremony after the screening, the contest’s judges will announce not only which movie wins the coveted People’s Choice award but which movie will be seen by Michael Uslan, executive producer behind Hollywood’s Batman franchise. The winners will get to sit down with Uslan for a half-hour before he presents on March 8 at UWEC’s Forum. The Schofield screening is free to the public, and usually comes with popcorn to boot, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t head down to check out the all of the epic epicness.
