Post-Basement Post-Rock

Nick Meyer |

I’ve been meaning to post about this band for several weeks now, so here it is quick and dirty to get it out there. There’s this band that lurks around Eau Claire called Farms (their MySpace says they’re from Hudson, but they’ll be in an EC basement full-time starting this summer). It’s two dudes, Andy Todryk and Ben Larson (L and R above). I don’t know anything about Todryk, but Larson was involved in previous musical projects including the defunct instrumental band O’Israel – a great semi-local take on Explosions in the Sky (to oversimplify). And he’s involved in the local art scene through NOTA and other endeavors. Anyway, Farms don’t seem to play live very often, but they have some recorded demo material that you may want to take a listen to. It’s kind of a delay-heavy, noisy post-rock with just enough melody to keep things interesting. Looks like they may be playing a basement show at Nate’s Dungeon on June 13. And they recently did some more professional recording with the intention of releasing a split record with Milwaukee's Panda Teeth. Let us know what you think. For the record, I think they're awesome.
