Best Local Book Released In The Last Year

1st Place: Michael Perry, From The Top
2nd Place: Nickolas Butler, Shotgun Lovesongs
3rd Place: Travis Dewitz, Blaze Orange: Whitetail Deer Hunting in Wisconsin

Michael Perry has been a Chippewa Valley favorite since his first best-seller, Population 485, hit the shelves. His new release this past year, From the Top, is a collection of brief essays drawn from his weekly appearances on the nationally syndicated Tent Show Radio program and pushed him to the top of the 2014 list. Not far behind him was Nickolas Butler’s debut novel, the critically acclaimed Shotgun Lovesongs. It focused on hometown stories, drew national attention from outlets such as The New York Times, and put both Butler and Eau Claire into the spotlight. Finally, local photographer Travis Dewitz captures the culture of Wisconsin whitetail deer hunting in his recent release published by the Wisconsin Historical Society, Blaze Orange: Whitetail Deer Hunting in Wisconsin. His ability to capture the family ties and ingrained traditions of Wisconsin hunting got him a third place spot. –Lindsey Quinnies
