Best Building

Sometimes, bigger is better. With almost 2 million square feet, Banbury Place (800 Wisconsin St., Eau Claire), the former Uniroyal tire plant, is this year’s big winner of Best Building in the Chippewa Valley! Housing an intriguing mix of manufacturing, office space, and luxury apartments, Banbury looms large over the Eau Claire River. CNN named the tiny, “jewel box” theater at the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts (205 Main St. E, Menomonie) “one of the 15 most spectacular theaters in the world.” Royal Credit Union’s corporate headquarters (200 Riverfront Terrace, Eau Claire) was a lone pioneer when it was built on the Chippewa River waterfront in 2004. Today, the red brick and green glass overlooks Phoenix Park, and will soon be just one of many beauties on the river. – Bonni Knight
