In just a few short months since opening its doors in downtown Menomonie, Adoray's Treasures from the Heart — a second-hand boutique — has captured the hearts of community members from all walks of life with its mission and vision. Tied to Adoray Home Health & Hospice, every donation and purchase from the boutique directly aids hospice patients and families throughout Western Wisconsin.

In anticipation for the hustle-and-bustle of holiday shopping, downtown Menomonie has welcomed a new kind of “treasure,” one that shines with heart, hometown care and a sense of purpose in the Chippewa Valley.

Adoray’s Treasures from the Heart (521 2nd St. E, Menomonie) — the newest addition to Adoray Home Health & Hospice’s fundraising thrift stores — opened its doors earlier this summer. In just a few short months, this second-hand boutique has captured the hearts of community members, Amber Bettinger-Lytle, Adoray’s director of marketing and development said.

“Every item that comes through our doors tells a story,” Bettinger-Lytle shared. “When someone donates a household item or buys a sweater, that act of kindness ripples outward, helping us bring care, compassion and hope to someone in need.”

For three decades and onward, Adoray Home Health & Hospice has cared for clients and families across five counties Western Wisconsin: Saint Croix, Dunn, Pierce, Polk and Barron counties. The non-profit organization continues to walk alongside families in need, Bettinger-Lytle said — as it provides home health, palliative care, hospice, grief and caregiver support.

“What Adoray is able to do — through our hospice programs — is to help families be together longer,” Bettinger-Lytle said.

Adoray’s Treasures from the Heart — with locations in Baldwin, River Falls, Osceola and now Menomonie — expands upon this mission and existing caregiver services. The downtown Menomonie boutique carefully collects and curates items from the homes of loved ones who have since passed away or are in transition to new assisted living environments.

“People who have lost a loved one (are) clearing out their house — or maybe they are downsizing after the loss of a loved one,” Bettinger-Lytle said. “They feel good knowing that they are bringing (these belongings) to a place that is going to support what they just went through.

“We strive to not just be a thrift store; we really put a lot of thought (into the boutique),” she added.

Much of this initiative and care is thanks to the time of trained volunteers who share similar experiences to those who actively seek Adoray Home Health & Hospice services. At Adoray's Treasures from the Heart, these volunteers collaborate with full-time staff to creatively transform donated items into timeless treasures for the boutique.

Every purchase, donation and volunteer hour from the boutique shop directly aids Adoray Home Health & Hospice to provide compassionate care for patients and families throughout Western Wisconsin, Bettinger-Lytle said.

“Our money is truly staying right in the community,” Bettinger-Lytle said. “Our goal and mission is to help everyone find access to the care they need, when they need it.”

Located in a historic building in downtown Menomonie — that once housed a cooperative grocer and donut shop — the newest Adoray’s Treasures from the Heart location invites patrons to explore a diverse array of holiday-themed sections.

This time of year, inventory highlights include vintage baking dishes, stockings and wreaths and even that special snowman-shaped cookie jar reminiscent of grandma's house.

Whether you assist through donations, volunteering — or simply shopping through your holiday gift list — Adoray’s Treasures from the Heart offers a unique opportunity to reinvest your holiday spending and aid community members facing end-of-life journeys.

This support, in turn, allows families to cherish more quality time together and the chance to find meaningful keepsakes that honor the memories of loved ones.
