Rockonsin – the annual garage band competition that takes place every summer at the Summerfest grounds in Milwaukee – is going virtual this season with the 2020 “Rockonsin at Home.” Applications are being accepted through July 8 free of charge at www.rocksonsin.org for seventh- through 12th-grade students in Wisconsin. Three music industry professionals will judge each band’s application video. Judges include Cathy Dethmers (former owner of Madison’s High Noon Saloon and guitarist), Stefan Truesdell (guitar teacher and lead guitarist for Zeroed Hero), and Borna Velic (program director and afternoon DJ on Milwaukee’s The HOG 102.9). The winner and runner up will receive a professional recording session and a full set at Summerfest 2021. The top 12 finalists will receive two Shure microphones. The winning band also receives a wireless vocal microphone system and a Rockonsin award for every band member. More information is available at www.facebook.com/rockonsin.
