The Eau Claire City Council has given its approval to a revised plan for two five-story apartment buildings at the northwest corner of South Farwell and Emery streets in downtown Eau Claire. Last year, the developer – JCAP Construction – got approval for the project when it was intended as a senior living and memory care facility. However, the developer has since altered the plan to instead entail two multifamily apartment buildings aimed at mixed-income tenants. The project, known as Wilson Square, will include 115 apartments as well as outdoor amenities such as a fire pit, patio, and dog exercise area, according to documents submitted to the city. It will be designed in a New York brownstone architectural style, and will replace three vacant single-story commercial buildings and two vacant multi-family residential buildings. Wilson Square will encompass most of a city block across the street from Wilson Park on the south and the Leader-Telegram office to the east. On June 9, the City Council unanimously approved amending the general development plan for the project, including providing off-site parking and allowing reduced setbacks from nearby properties.
