Merry Christkindlmarkt

Lazy Monk’s annual German-style market returns

author & photographer by Nate Cooksey

Lazy Monk Brewing is back with holiday cheer, hosting their fourth annual Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market for non-German speakers) – celebrating the quaint German tradition of the late-middle ages, bringing residents and local artisans closer together right in the heart of downtown Eau Claire. On two Saturdays this December (the 7th and 14th), visitors will be greeted with local wares of every variety in a open-air market setting.

Food and beverage options will be available, with brats, beer and hot chocolate that visitors can enjoy while browsing the booths. Both Saturdays, vendors will line the face of the building, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in this slice of history and cross a few things off the gift-list for this holiday season – all while supporting local artists and craftspeople.

Admission to Christkindlmarkt is free of charge, allowing window shoppers to gaze to their heart’s content. All ages are welcomed to attend this yearly event – so mark your calendars, grab your coats, and enjoy a Wisconsin twist on a Bavarian classic.

4th Annual Christkindlmarkt. When: Dec. 7 and Dec. 14  from Noon-4pm. Where: Lazy Monk Brewing, 97 W. Madison St., Eau Claire. Visit them online at www.lazymonkbrewing.com.
