One of a Kind Designs
Robert Giede Design offers custom and ready-made treasures
Robert Giede wears two rings when he isn’t at his work bench. On his right hand ring finger is a red and orange fire agate mounted adjacent to a white diamond on a 14 karat yellow gold band. His wedding ring, on the other hand, sports four diamonds – teal, white, grass green, and olive – flush set into a thick band of the same yellow gold. Both are of his own making, pieces he has crafted in his more than 40 years of jewelry making in Menomonie.
“We’re kind of blending our style with something that’s trending in the jewelry industry, but we’re doing it better.” - Robert Giede, Robert Giede Design
Since then the team has grown to include two more goldsmiths: Christina Williams and Claire Kayser. Together with Bob, they create completely one-of-a-kind custom pieces. Between them, they have more than 70 years of combined experience.
Robert Giede Design has a showroom full of gorgeous handmade pieces at their store location, but they specialize in custom designs. Using carefully selected traditional gemstones, elk ivory, precious metals, and precious tokens, they start with your inspiration and turn it into a stunning completed work. Unlike typical jewelry stores, where clients might choose a pre-designed band, setting, and style, at Robert Giede Designs every custom piece of jewelry is sculpted entirely from scratch in-house. They create custom jewelry, cufflinks, belt buckles; the choices are endless for holiday gifts, birthdays, engagements, weddings, and more.
Giede describes their work as “contemporary, free-flowing, and asymmetrical.” It’s a look that’s influenced by his studio’s prioritization of durability and by a talent for balancing function with form. Comfort Fit bands and bezel settings provide comfort, resist catching and wear, and hold gemstones safe and secure. These values inform the finished works, which are unapologetically bold and strong.
The work done at Robert Giede Designs is timeless yet striking, but they do work with clients to create pieces based on trendy designs. They apply their own methods to trends such as halo wedding or engagement rings, introducing more secure bezel settings and an additional ring of metal to protect prong settings against damage. “We’re kind of blending our style with something that’s trending in the jewelry industry, but we’re doing it better.”
For the most part, however, the jewelry store’s customers come to them for unique designs. “People want something different,” he said. “And they want something well-made.” Bob, Chris, and Claire have always wanted to be the best at what they do, to be fair, and to have fun; and that’s just what they do every day.
