After a national search, UW-Eau Claire has hired a new dean of students with nearly two decades of experience at several academic institutions. LaRue Pierce, who started the job Aug. 5, comes to the UWEC from Springfield Technical Community College in Massachusetts, where he was dean of students and assistant vice president. According to the university, “Pierce will promote student success, access and development across the university; coordinate the administration of student conduct procedures; and serve as a deputy Title IX coordinator.” Pierce, a UW-Stout alumnus, had also held leadership roles in student affairs at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota; Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio; and Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. “I am honored to be appointed the dean of students at an institution I’ve held in high regard for more than two decades,” Pierce said. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to support the university’s mission, enhance the student experience and academic success, and foster an inclusive living and learning environment.” The previous UWEC dean of students, Dr. Joseph Abhold, retired in May.
