There’s a common misconception that writers are hermits, crafting their works by candlelight in solitary houses located in the middle of dark and deep forests. The Chippewa Valley Writers Guild proved that stereotype wrong with the Priory Writers’ Retreat – “a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative writing community in the heart of Wisconsin’s Chippewa Valley,” according to their website. To celebrate the conclusion of the retreat, the CVWG will host a celebratory reading by writers-in-residence Nickolas Butler (fiction), Dasha Kelly Hamilton (poetry), David McGlynn (memoir), and former Wisconsin Poet Laureate Karla Huston from 7:30pm to 8:30pm on July 20 at the Pablo Center. Tickets are $8 each. The Priory Writers’ Retreat offers writers around the community the opportunity to attend keynote addresses, have personalized feedback on their work, and participate in the writing community. The retreat runs July 18-21, but (unfortunately) applications are closed. More information about the celebratory reading can be found on the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild website. To purchase tickets, visit the Pablo Center website at pablocenter.org.
