Usually, calling someone’s fashion choices “trashy” is insulting. At UW-Eau Claire’s “Just Bag It” fashion show, it’s actually true: All the clothing items featured must be made from recycled or repurposed items. Sponsored by the Housing and Residence Life Office of Sustainability and the Student Office of Sustainability, this event seeks to promote a culture of sustainability regarding the fashion industry. UWEC students, clubs, organizations, residence halls, or other social groups have the opportunity to create outfits made entirely from recycled or repurposed items for a chance to win cash prizes, including the first prize of $200. Each team can have up to five members, said Megan Wagaman, an organizer of the event. Last year, Wagaman said there were 13 teams and an estimated 65 participants. Just Bag It will take place on April 24 in the Schofield Auditorium at UWEC. At 6pm, there will be at water bar and textile table at the event. The fashion show will run from 6:30-8:30pm.
