DAVIS DOGS: New York dogs hit Eau Claire

V1 Staff |

After getting laid off from a job in construction, Jim Davis did what any reasonable New York native would: He built and opened up his own hot dog truck in 2013. Davis Dogs currently serves up 16 different styles of hot dogs, ranging from a reuben dog to a mac and cheese dog. Davis said the top-selling dish is the Chicago dog, but he recommends customers try one of his signature hot dogs, which include nacho, taco, blue bacon, and bacon cheddar ranch dogs. The truck menu is constantly changing and improving, as Davis said he’s “always cooking up something new, with my hands in the barrel – or the fire.” Davis Dogs is entirely family-run and -owned, and several of the hot dogs are even named for members of Davis’ family. While the truck has served up hot dogs at the likes of UW-Eau Claire’s Homecoming, the Eau Claire Marathon, and Special Olympics events, the 2019 Food Truck Friday season marks the first time it will make its way to downtown Eau Claire. Davis said he has received many requests to bring the food truck downtown from people who work in the area and don’t have the time to make the trip to his truck otherwise. “I’m looking forward to putting some smiles on their faces,” Davis said. He’s eager to serve hot dogs to customers – both regulars and first-timers – as Davis Dogs steps onto the downtown stage.
