More than 100 artists – professional, student, and rising artists – will showcase their work at the 55th Annual Spring Art Show April 7- 19 in the galleries of the Heyde Center for the Arts in Chippewa Falls. Fiber artists, wood carvers, painters, drawers, photographers, sculptors, potters, and more could submit up to three pieces for consideration. “Every year, our patrons marvel at our number of talented artists,” noted Debra A. Johnson, executive director of the Heyde Center for the Arts. “You walk through the galleries and think this should be in New York or California, but it’s here.” What makes this exhibit special, according to Johnson, is the mentoring relationship that develops between established professionals and creators who are showing for the first time. The new artists learn how to hang or display their pieces correctly and safely from experienced Heyde Center volunteers. The show is non-juried, and judges choose seven pieces from all submissions for outstanding merit and originality. There are four cash awards, including a special award for a student artist. At show’s end, the 10 top vote getters in the people’s choice award are announced too. The Chippewa Herald newspaper and the Chippewa Valley Cultural Association co-sponsor the exhibit. Some artwork will be for sale. Admission is free, and voluntary donations will be accepted.
