Spontaneity commonly sparks quirky haircuts, weekend getaways, and – in the case of UW-Eau Claire English Professor David Jones – a creative space for original, independent music. After his lease was up last summer for a storage space he was using for music equipment, Jones searched for a new, larger space in which to keep his things. After some searching, he found a larger location in Banbury Place that, he said brought new possibilities to mind. “What if I went with a bigger space where I could do living room-scale concerts, films, and retail, along with the basic need of storage?” Jones, who has been a part-time musician for more than 35 years, recalled asking himself. That space, located in Suite 218 of Banbury Place, became “Davey J’s Garage,” which will host its grand opening during the Banbury Art Crawl on Saturday, Feb. 9. The store is set to sell used instruments, stereo and public address equipment, CDs, and books. It will double as means of displaying and showcasing art, movies and music. “I would love to maintain this space as a place for high-quality creative productions that are suited for a highly interested, intimate audience,” Jones said. Davey J’s Garage will host regular events, such as concerts on the first Friday of the month, film events the second Saturday of the month, and a “Chill Chat” event the third Saturday of the month. Davey J’s Garage opens 10am Saturday, Feb. 9 during the Banbury Art Crawl.
