Come out and witness a master on the keys. Renowned pianist George Winston is returning to town, and he’s bringing his impeccable ivory-tickling skills with him. On Dec. 19, community members are encouraged to come down to Eau Claire’s State Theatre for an evening of talented musical fun. Winston’s performance will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and will feature tunes in the musician’s unique style of “folk piano.” Growing up with a passion for music, Winston began to draw inspiration from instrumental rock and R&B artists such as Floyd Cramer, The Ventures, and The Doors. After taking up the organ at an early age, the budding musician soon transitioned to acoustic piano – a decision influenced by a newfound love for the legendary stride pianists of the 1920s and ’30s. In addition to recording songs in a style characterized by traditional jazz piano, Winston also writes and performs solo guitar and harmonica music. The musician has already released 11 solo piano albums and has plans to release his next – Spring Carousel: A Cancer Research Benefit – in 2016. Tickets for the Dec. 19 concert are $35 and are now available for purchase by calling (715) 832-2787.
