In recent weeks, a bunch more compelling events have popped up surrounding Prex Claires – which in itself is a compelling event surrounding Eaux Claires. Maybe you’ve heard about Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner scoring the Fourth of July fireworks in downtown EC, maybe you’ve heard about the Marijuana Deathsquads + Swamp Dogg + FOG pizza race show happening at The Metro after that. Or dang, maybe you’ve even heard about the dozens of local Eau Claire bands playing at different venues all over the city on July 5. Well, here’s a few extra things to pile on top and make your Prex Claires dreams overflow with joy. Revival Records is hosting an afternoon Prex Claires in-store rock show where Miss Dee Lovely will join The Jaggernauts to pay tribute to the late great David Bowie by covering Bowie’s legendary Ziggy Stardust album. That show kicks off at 3pm with openers the Giants of Midgard and the John Buxton Experience. Later that night as downtown descends into live music chaos, the State Theatre will host an eclectic, words-y crew of performers with Twin Cities rapper Astronautalis, honky-tonk heroine Mary Cutrufello, and the words of local author Michael Perry. Tons of stuff to do in town ahead of Eaux Claires, a two-day festival that’s got a whole other two-day thing leading up to it. Don’t wear yourself out. Drink some water, get enough rest, and enjoy all the tunes in all of the places.
