Hear, ye, hear ye! The Eau Claire City Council issued a proclamation recognizing the efforts and contributions of the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild to the community on Feb. 27. “The art of writing is now due its recognition, as many impressive writers provide robust, high-impact programming for literary lovers in the region,” Council President Kerry Kincaid said. “The writing artist is another important addition to our vibrant local art culture and deserves our support.” The guild was founded in 2016 by Eau Claire author and UW-Eau Claire professor B.J. Hollars, and it has grown into a network of many professional and budding authors that hosts workshops, residencies, and other events year-round. More than 25 guild members attended the City Council meeting to witness the announcement of the proclamation. “For us, this proclamation serves as a testament to the strength of our arts community, as well as the city’s support for this important work, which not only contributes meaningfully to the creative economy, but enhances the quality of life for all our citizens,” Hollars said.
