Grammy Award-nominated flutist Peter Phippen is adding another big nomination to his belt. The 2017 Native American Music Award, or the NAMMYs, is considering Phippen’s latest album, Solace – Tao of Nature Flutes for the Native Heart category. Phippen humbly states, “I’m very honored to be nominated. I’m always the bridesmaid, never the bride,” as he has received many nominations from several award programs, but has yet to take a gilded award home. Solace is a smattering of Phippen over the past 20 years, including his best improvisational music using an array of flutes both traditional and contemporary. His hypnotizing melodies and graceful performance will take listeners to a place of peace. The NAMMYs will be hosted by the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on Oct. 14. No matter the outcome of the NAMMYs, Phippen already has an astounding artistic career. He has released more than half a dozen albums and performed alongside many notable Native American musicians such as Coyote Oldman.
