“Impossible City” by Kim McCormick
(2016), Digital painting, 15” x 12”

Kim McCormick is a graphic designer from Rhinelander. Experienced working with both digital and traditional mediums, Kim brings elements and symbols of nature into the digital world of art.

“‘The Impossible City,’ like the title explains, portrays a fictional metropolis that resides deep underground, creating a permanent nightscape where the inhabitants live inside gravity-defying rocks. This piece was the first made in a class I took during my senior year in college. Up until that point, my time and creativity was put to use for graphic design – which in general has more restrictions and limitations. It was a challenge I enjoyed, having to design under certain parameters, each project having its own unique guidelines. Creating ‘The Impossible City’ felt so very foreign in comparison – I had unlimited creative freedom and the possibilities were endless! Any idea that entered my mind was fair game, regardless of how impossible it may have seemed.” – The Artist
