Combined March for Science, Climate Slated

Chippewa Vallians can mark Earth Day – that’s Saturday, April 22, this year – with a March for Science and Climate. The local event is combination of two international marches: the March for Science (billed as “an unprecedented gathering of people standing together to acknowledge and voice the critical role that science plays in each of our lives”) and the Peoples Climate Movement march (meant to draw attention to global climate change), which will be held in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere on April 29. Rather than separate (but related) marches on consecutive weekends, local organizers decided to hold a single march. Participants will gather at 10am April 22 on the UW-Eau Claire campus mall next to Phillips Science Hall. They will cross the Chippewa River, and follow the Planet Walk past Owen Park and into Phoenix Park, “stopping at each planet to hear from a variety of scientists, science-supporters, and climate activists sharing their stories to inspire and motivate,” a press release stated.
