Chippewa Valley voters approved one school financing referendum but rejected two others on Election Day. In the Eau Claire school district, a plan to boost the school budget by $5.86 million annually for 15 years passed overwhelmingly, with 27,036 votes (or 64 percent) in favor and 5,090 votes (36 percent) against. Because of the referendum, the district will be able to increase the amount of taxes it levies on property owners. The funds will be used to fill the district’s deficit, as well as to improve buildings and pay employees, although details haven’t been determined. Meanwhile, voters in the Chipppewa Falls school district voted down two referendums: The first would have spent $61 million to replace Stillson Elementary School; the second was for $98 million to build a new high school and transform the existing high school into a middle school. The Stillson referendum lost by a vote of 8,016 to 9,522, while the high school referendum failed by a wider margin, 6,376 to 10,348.
