The Flyest of Hairstyles

fundraiser for veterans puts awesome ‘dos on the runway

Local hairstylists Amanda Jonas and Coli Burke combine creativity and charity in the second annual Hairica show: Hairica: Unlit. Part hair show, part dinner party, and part fundraiser, Hairica is the only event of its kind in the Chippewa Valley. The first Hairica featured models with colorful curls and pinup attire strutting down the runway in a ‘50s rockabilly show. This year, Jonas and Burke take on high fashion with an avant-garde theme. Thirty models will act as human art exhibits for Hairica: Unlit, each showcasing the stylists’ signature ‘dos.  In addition to a unique runway show, tickets come with a gourmet dinner, signature drinks, raffles, and a dance party – all for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Eau Claire chapter of the Disabled American Veterans charity. “It really combines Coli’s and my passion for artistic, out-of-the-box hair and supporting men and women in the military,” says co-founder and stylist Amanda Jonas about the upcoming show. Jonas and Coli hope to raise enough money to purchase a handicap accessible van to transport veterans from Eau Claire to VA hospitals in Tomah and the Twin Cities. “Hairica brings high energy and fun while giving the community a reason to come together and support our local vets,” says Jonas. Why not extend Veterans’ Day into Veterans’ Weekend? Get off your couch and fill your Saturday night with good hair, good food, and good grooves for the guys and gals who keep our country safe.
